Funeral Arrangements for Francelia (Fritz) Miller – Dressing is Tuesday (9/15) at 2pm at the Simnasho Longhouse. Burial is Wednesday (9/16) at 9am at Simnasho Cemetery. All denominations are welcome.
Today is Late Start Monday for all 509-J students. Schools will open 90 minutes later than normal.
At the Warm Springs K-8 Academy, it’s the First Day of School for All Kindergarten Students together. 5th Graders will have Outdoor School Classroom Visits today.
The Timber Committee is scheduled to meet this morning from 8:30-noon at the Forestry Admin Office and the Land Use Planning Committee from 2-4:30 in conference room 3 at the Tribal Admin. Both committees meet twice monthly on the 2nd and 4th Mondays.
Senior Fitness Class at the Senior Center is every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:45 with a lunch for participants after.
The Helping Hand Food Pantry is open today from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Warm Springs Presbyterian Church on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring your own bags.
On the Madras High School Sports Schedule today: JV2 Volleyball hosts Crook County at 4:30. JV & Varsity Volleyball host Sisters and play at 4:30 & 6. Boys JV2 Soccer plays at Summit at 5:30.
Jefferson County School District 509J’s School Board will meet this evening at 6:30 in the Board Conference Room at the District Office (Support Services Building) located at 445 S. E. Buff Street in Madras.
The Rip City Rally is coming to Madras on Wednesday (9/16). Join the Portland Trail Blazers and Moda Health for the Rip City Fair with activities for all ages from 4-6pm at Madras City Hall. The event will feature games & prizes, basketball clinics & shooting contests, Blaze the Trail Cat and the 1977 Championship Trophy.
Joy Harjo, the 23rd US Poet Laureate, will present an evening of poetry and conversation at the Wyam Youth Center on Wednesday (9/16). She will give a reading and share stories about the struggles, challenges and joys of coming of age, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. The program will begin at 5pm.
Warm Springs Head Start’s Open House is Wednesday (9/16) from 5-7:30pm at ECE.
Warm Springs CPS’s annual energy assistance will be available to up to 300 applicants on Friday, September 18th from 1-4pm at the old school gym. To be eligible, you must bring a printed hard copy of your most recent light bill. They will NOT accept digital copies, emails or phone apps so be sure to print your bill before you go. Payment processing takes time so please be patient with staff and volunteers.
Fall term GED classes in Warm Springs begin Monday September 21st at the Education Building. You can register during the first week of classes. Classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays noon til 3 at the Warm Springs Education Building and 3-7 at the COCC Madras Campus.
The Oregon Employment Department’s mobile WorkSource Oregon center will be in Warm Springs at the Community Center parking lot from 9:30-3:30 on Tuesday, September 22nd. People can stop by to connect with career support, technology, and WorkSource staff who can help you take the next step in your job search. Services include free computer and internet access, personalized career support, help finding job and training opportunities, and referrals to benefits programs. If you are a Veteran, you’ll receive priority access to WorkSource Oregon services.
